The Health & Safety Commission (HSC) recently unveiled a series of case studies setting out the business case for good health and safety management. They demonstrate business and social benefits of health and safety improvements in a variety of organisations.

Every job has the potential to be hazardous to your health & safety and many workplace illnesses can be prevented or cured by identifying the causes and making simple changes.

Employers in the U.K have a legal duty to make sure that workplaces are healthy and safe.

However, only 3% of small and medium size enterprises have access to any occupational health provision.

Statistics show that 75% of new incapacity benefit claimants suffer from manageable medical conditions such as mild depression, back pain and mild circulatory disorders. They could have benefited from early intervention to prevent long term sickness absence or incapacity.

Medical evidence indicates that, for many conditions a return to normal activity, including a return to work is likely to enhance well being and improve long term recovery.
