& Better Health at Work

How we can work with Practitioners in the North Kirklees,
Huddersfield Central and South Huddersfield Primary
Care Trust areas.

As you may be aware the Government is considering new initiatives to get and keep people working. Better Health at Work has been launched in the Kirklees area to help improve safety, health and wellbeing at work.

In Kirklees we are developing a new facility alongside local Practices and Health Professionals, to give them the opportunity of offering their Patients this free and confidential service.

Our Health at Work Advisers joined the Better Health at Work team in January 2005. They provide Occupational Health Advice to clients who may not have easy access to occupational health support at their workplace. They are currently assisting individuals in addition to small/medium sized businesses, to improve safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace. They are working with GP practices throughout Kirklees to promote health awareness and help reduce sickness absence for workers.

Similar projects in Sheffield, Leeds and Liverpool have been successfully operating for the last ten years. Advisers have held surgery sessions in many practices. The responses from GP's, Practice Nurses and patients have been very positive. Independent evaluation and research has proven that such interventions have reduced the need for GP consultation.

Health at Work Adviser Sessions can be arranged to meet the needs of the individual surgeries.

The Better Health at Work Team can provide a comprehensive referral and support service.
